She inherited her love for France from her father, and her love for sweets from her mother.
Adding her own shy simplicity to the mix, together with some good old fashioned candor, 5 years ago Lucia brought to life a small wonderland made of sweets in the heart of Brera, the area she finds most tranquil in all of Milan.
Her shop is decorated with a classic style, with a touch of provence taste, which makes customers always feel welcome and at home: pastel colors, petite iron tables, famous quotes painted on the walls alongside paintings of clouds.
“DI VIOLE DI LIQUIRIZIA”, which is the shop’s name, is the name of the first cook book Lucia received as a present from her mother Pina, who always shared a love for sweets with her: in fact, Lucia still remembers that ever since she was a small girl her mother would always be baking cakes and pastries with her own hands, for any special occasion: a birthday, the first day of school, even the simple joy of a snack time shared with Lucia’s friends!
Lucia has always stood by her side, learning all of the cooking secrets she has now made her own, and that transform her sweets into absolutely delightful treats, mixed with the authentic taste of home made cooking.
Cupcakes have been a specialty of “DI VIOLE DI LIQUIRIZIA” since the shop’s opening, and these small treats allow customers to try different tastes. After that, Lucia also slowly began proposing bigger cupcakes on the shop’s shelves, and today you will find them set on display besides a variety of homemade cakes.
Each and every pastry is made right inside the shop’s kitchen, following Lucia’s mother’s recipes, that have been hand written into notebooks that are now old and worn out, but still very useful!
The sweets are decorated with colors that follow the American cooking tradition, however they are all prepared with european ingredients, all of them genuine and never chemical: all food colorings are obtained naturally using the same ingredients required in the different recipes, such as carrots, strawberries, chocolate, and so on….
In addition to all these delightful sweet treats, you can also buy a selection of delicious teas available inside the shop.
The shop location is welcoming and perfectly set into the surrounding city context: various habitual customers meet here often for breakfast, and people can spend hours talking, writing, and simply enjoying their time here.
